Shiatsu
Shiatsu literally means finger pressure. It is a massage technique that is centered on pressure applied to the body by finger tips and palms of the hands and sometimes even using elbows, knees and feet.
Shiatsu creates its health benefit by applying pressure to twelve meridians that channel physical, spiritual and emotional energy.
Each of these meridians travels through the body, connecting with the major organs and partly to the surface of the body. As each major organ is connected to a meridian, you can become ill when these meridians become blocked. By putting pressure on these points, the practitioner seeks to restore the vital flow of life force enabling the body to heal.
One of the benefits of Shiatsu can be of a feeling of general well being, and it can be especially helpful with chronic ailments like digestive problems.
Shiatsu, like Yoga, includes stretching exercises that the person can do alone to stimulate the free flow of energy, through the meridians and promote continual physical well being.
Shiatsu benefits problems such as back pain, headaches, migraines, other aches and pains and any chronic tension in the body, insomnia, irregularities of menstrual cycle or painful periods, low libido and prevalent negative moods.
